Specific goals. I am going to lose weight is a specific goal.
Measurable – You want a goal that you can measure so if you put down that you want to lose 5 pounds
and you only lost 2 pounds you want to know if your goal was accomplished. This holds you
accountable.
Attainable – You do not want to make your goals so low that it is very easy for your to accomplish them.
You also do not want to make them so high that it may seem impossible to achieve. In the beginning you
do want to start out slow and see how it goes and what exactly you may need to do to achieve your
goals. If you have a really large goal you would like to accomplish you should break it up into smaller
attainable pieces where you can see your progress on a monthly basis.
Relevant goals need to be important to you. If you think you don’t need to lose weight and your husband
thinks you should. This weight loss goal is not for you.
Time-based – You need to give yourself a reasonable amount of time to complete your goal 10 to 20
pounds to lose in a month is healthy and it is doable.
